So I guess its somewhat appropriate to begin this chronicle during the week of Columbia's many, many commencement ceremonies. I've been trying to come up with a definitive description of what this blog should encompass, but really, there's about a thousand things that I could address here--everything from why archivists process to how archivists process to the historical context of this collection to the absolute necessity of having access to a large empty dumpster while processing.
In an effort to not let the possibilities overwhelm and cripple me, I've decided to just let it figure itself out--a method that seems to fall nicely in line with archival practice.
The image in the header of this blog is scanned from a publication by the NYCC, probably published some time in the 1950s (its undated, so that's a guess). It sounds so optimistic and cheerful, doesn't it?
